Final Thoughts
Some of the assignments that we had to do throughout the course were rather interesting since they were a primarily new experience for me. What was really new to me was the need to upload our work to our website, especially since it was my first time making a website about myself. This class was the first time I had to upload pages of my website instead of simply submitting documents to a canvas module of some sort. I enjoyed my time learning new techniques and methods of writing as well as experiencing what it is like to use technology throughout my writing.
I learned about many new and different things, such as memos or making tutorial videos. Each assignment was a unique experience that helped me broaden my writing style. I believe that the most important thing that I have learned for this class has been structure. What designs or positions are most comfortable to our readers, and how do we make them pleasing to the eye while also making them understandable for our readers. There are many ways to approach your design. Still, you can’t just make it any way you want without considering your audience because viewers who come to your website may not like the design if it is unpleasant to their eyes or does not function the way they might intuitively think it should. For example, when you position your text to all in one instead of breaking it down, it can cause the readers to lose attention or get lost in the reading, no matter how attractive your writing is. I want to see different ways people structured their websites to take inspiration on how to position my own writing and maybe apply their techniques in my writing.
With all the new things that I have learned, I believe that I want to practice more by applying my new knowledge to my future writings. I want to get better and be able to apply what I have learned easily rather than having to work toward applying them each time consciously. I will also try to use different types of topics, from serious business to silly issues, to broaden my range of understanding. For example, suppose I type up two memos, one that is serious and one that is silly. In that case, I can compare the two and see the similarities and differences and how they both deliver their message to the person I am writing my memo for. Overall, I will practice more in the future, so when I have a job requiring this writing style, I will be able to write them up rather than looking lost and trying to remember how to write one.
Although this class was online, I was happy to learn all sorts of assignments, and this was very different from the previous writing classes that I had taken. I have to say that I took a lot from this class, and I hope that the information that I learn from this class will stay as I practice more on these types of assignments.
